A thought from George Ford
God said “I have indeed seen the misery of my people in Egypt. I have heard them crying out because of their slave drivers, and I am concerned about their suffering.”
’So now, go. I am sending you to Pharaoh to bring my people the Israelites out of Egypt. But Moses said to God “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt.” And God said “I will be with you.”
(Exodus 3:7, 10-12a)
‘Moses said to the Lord, “Pardon your servant, Lord. I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue.” The Lord said to him, “Who gave human beings their mouths? Who gives them sight or makes them blind? Is it not I, the Lord? Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say.”
But Moses said, “Pardon you servant, Lord. Please send someone else.” Then the Lord’s anger burned against Moses and he said, “What about your brother, Aaron the Levite? I know he can speak well. . . .I will help both of you speak and will teach you what to do. He will speak to the people for you, and it will be as if he were your mouth and as if you were God to him’.
(Exodus 4:10-15, 16 abr.)
Reflection
Our response to God’s call on our lives is so very often met with a, ‘Who, me?’ kind of response. Yet, it’s been said many times over, and is true, God doesn’t always call the equipped – but equips those He calls. May we respond to His call knowing He will equip us to do His will.
Prayer
Heavenly Father we thank and praise you that you have a plan and purpose for all our lives. A plan to prosper us and give us hope for the future. Through our prayers, and the reading of your word may we, and all who today are agonising over what they should say or do, hear your call, and know your plan and purposes for us without fear of faltering, because we know you are always with us, and will equip us when we seek to do your will. To the honour and the praise of your name.
Amen.
Worship
‘I the Lord of sea and sky, I have heard my people cry: All who dwell in dark and sin, my hand will save. Whom shall I send? Hear I am Lord Is it I Lord? I have heard you calling in the night. I will go Lord, if you lead me I will hold your people in my heart.’
(Daniel L. Schutte, 1981)
