A thought from George Ford

“O Lord, you have searched me and you know me. Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the Heavens, You are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.” (Psalm 139:2,7&8)

Jesus said “And surely I am with you always to the very end of the age.” (Matt 28:20)

Reflection

And here the Psalmist is saying very much the same thing about his awareness of God’s presence with him. Even if he were to go up to the heavens or down to the depths – or the ‘pit’ as its referred to in some other Psalms. We too can know that presence with us even if we find our down in dark places. Whatever deep concerns, anxieties, wrong doing, or uncertainties we might be passing through we need to look up, and see Jesus love is there with us. Whichever darkness might be ours today may we look up, and see the light of His love, and feel the renewing strength of His Spirit lifting us once more.

Prayer

Loving Lord Jesus, who promised always to be with us, help us to see the light of your love there with us in whatever dark place we might find ourselves, and grant us true faith to feel the strength of your Spirit lifting us up to walk day by day in your loving presence. Amen.

Worship

Spirit of the living God fall a fresh on me: Spirit of the living God fall a fresh on me. Fill me anew, fill me a new. Spirit of the living God fall a fresh on me (Paul Armstrong 1984)

Spirit of the living God fall a fresh on me; Spirit of the living God fall a fresh on me. Break me, melt me, mould me, fill me, Spirit of the living God fall a fresh on me (Daniel Iverson 1935)
