A thought from George Ford

‘Now that same day two of them were going to a village called Emmaus, seven miles from Jerusalem. They were talking with each other about everything that had happened. As they talked and discussed these things with each other, Jesus Himself came up and walked along with them, but they were kept from recognising Him.' (Luke 24:13–16 )

Reflection

These disciples had experienced then overwhelming events of that first Easter weekend. As they walked reaction and recollections just tumbled from them. As they animatedly discussed the events together they hardly notice another walker join them. He widened their reasoning and understanding using scripture. How often does the Risen Lord Jesus walk beside without us recognising Him. As we journey through this week and discus and reason current events in our lives may we recognise Jesus to be walking alongside us and through His Spirit may He open the scriptures to us as we read them.

Prayer

Risen Lord Jesus, draw alongside us today, as we consider the events of the first Easter weekend and contemplate the uncertainties in our lives today. Strengthen us by your Spirit to recognise you there journeying along side of us, open your word to our hearts that we might be guided by you and be forever thankful. Amen.

Worship

‘He lives, He lives, Christ Jesus lives today! He walks with me and talks with me along life’s narrow way. He lives, He lives, salvation to impart! You ask me how I know He lives? He lives within my heart.’ (Alfred H. Ackley, 1872-1958)
