A thought from George Ford
For we do not have a high priest who is unable to feel sympathy for our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are – yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need (Hebrews 4:15-16)
Reflection
The writer of the letter to the Hebrews expresses Jesus here as a great high priest who knows what it like to be tempted, but who had resisted, One who forgives the sins of those who have succumbed to temptation, as well as one who will not only forgive us our failings, but who will strengthen us by His Spirit to resist, and overcome, our temptations.
Prayer
Loving Lord Jesus who was tempted as we are, but yet was able to resist; forgive our failings, and strengthen us by your Spirit, to stand firm against temptation that we might follow you, and your ways, to the praise of your name. Amen.
