A thought from George Ford
‘I lift up my eyes to the mountains – where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven & earth.’
(Psalm 121:1-2)
Reflection
Some mountains are dark and rugged, others are lower, more rounded and green. Whichever we are looking at they stand firm and constant. As firm and as constant as the love God for us, and all his creation. Sometimes our life seems an uphill struggle – so steep and troublesome, so intensely engaging that we forget to look out over our shoulder to see the wider panoramic view – to see God’s goodness and to know Him to be there with us, as we climb our ‘steep and rugged pathway’ As we start a new month, and a new autumn season, may we also begin a new walk with Him who loves us and is constantly with us each and every day.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, you are the same yesterday, today, and for ever. Grant us to know that, not just in our minds, but in our hearts too. Strengthen us good Lord with your Spirit to climb those often step and rugged pathways of our life, and to rejoice in your great goodness to all who love and trust in you. To your everlasting praise and glory. Amen.
Worship
I lift my eyes to the quiet hills, in the press of a busy day; As green hills stand in a dusty land, so God is my strength and stay. I lift my eyes to the quiet hills, with a prayer as I turn to sleep: By day, by night, through the dark and light, my Shepherd will guard His sheep.
(Timothy Dudley-Smith 1968)
