A thought from George Ford
When the day of Pentecost came they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.(Acts 2:1-4)
Reflection
On the night before He died, and again immediately before He ascended to heaven, Jesus promised His followers they would receive the gift of His Holy Spirit. This came upon them in a very dramatic way and enabled each of them to speak and act differently according to the way the Spirit had enriched them. When we turn and faithfully follow Him, God enriches us with His Spirit to do the things He would have us do to express our love for Him to those around us.
Prayer
Heavenly Father we rejoice and praise you for the gift of your Holy Spirit that came down in such a dramatic way that even in those of different languages could understood each another. Revive your people once again again we pray with a fresh outpouring of your Spirit. May they each according to their gifts and abilities be true witness of your unfailing love, to the everlasting praise and glory of your name. Amen.
