A thought from George Ford
The Lord said “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.” Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountain apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake but the Lord was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went and stood at the mouth of the cave. Then a voice said to him “What are you doing here Elijah?” (1 Kings 19v11-13)
Reflection:
Some People search for God in the whirlwind of busy lives, while others expect finding Him to always be earth-quakingly dramatic. Many others look for Him in the fire of desperate or difficult circumstances. But so often it’s in those moments of calm stillness that we are most able to feel His presence right there alongside of us, and hear His wonderful whisper of love and assurance.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father who spoke to Elijah in a gentle whisper; grant that today we might pause, in whatever circumstance we may find ourselves, and in that calm moment hear your gentle whisper of love and re-assurance . To the praise and glory of your name. Amen.
Worship:
In every circumstance of life You are with me, glorious Father. And I have put my trust in You., that I may know the glorious hope to which I‘m called. And by the power that works in me, You’ve raised me up and set me free; And now in every circumstance I’ll prove Your love without a doubt, Your joy shall be my strength, Your joy shall be my strength (David Fellingham 1994)
